Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur, has launched the inaugural season of “Swaraj” on the popular OTT platform Amazon Prime.
Mr. Thakur, while underlining the significance of this launch, expressed, “Today marks a moment of immense pride for us and serves as a sincere tribute to all the unsung heroes of our independence struggle who selflessly sacrificed for the nation.” He revealed that the series was conceptualized in alignment with the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” national campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He further added that this will help the national and international audience to understand the spirit of the country and our 500-year-long relentless struggle to gain independence from colonial rulers.
Minister Anurag also informed the gathering about a new 52-episode series titled ‘Sardar: The Game Changer’ on Doordarshan, scheduled for release on March 10th, 2024, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Highlighting the Government’s commitment to fostering growth within the Media & Entertainment sector, Mr. Thakur emphasized the importance of creating quality content in Indian languages. He emphasized that language no longer serves as a barrier for global audiences in today’s interconnected world. He noted that regional Indian cinema has transcended geographical boundaries and resonated with global audiences due to its quality content.
The telecast of ‘Swaraj’ initially premiered on August 14, 2022, in Hindi on DD National, subsequently expanding to nine regional languages across Doordarshan’s regional networks. Presently, the series is available on Amazon Prime Video in seven regional languages, accompanied by Hindi and English subtitles.
