With immediate effect, Zomato will no longer entertain AI-generated images on the food menus and marketing materials of partner restaurants. This decision was taken on September 16th to ensure that there are no misleading advertisements on the platform. The restaurant aggregator and food delivery company also warned that failure to comply could lead to the delisting of partner restaurants.

Rakesh Ranjan, Zomato’s CEO of food ordering and delivery, stated that while AI-generated images have not yet caused a widespread issue, the company aims to curb the problem in its early stages. He also informed that AI will continue to play an important role in cataloguing and quick commerce options inspite of the ban.

Last month, Deepinder Goyal, the Founder and CEO of Zomato, urged restaurants to avoid using AI to generate images of their food and announced that they would actively start removing such images by the end of the month.
