Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, is set to introduce its new streaming platform during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on 20th November. This platform has been in development for over a year, and will offer a large collection of content from Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Prasar Bharati’s Chairperson, Navneet Kumar Sehgal, revealed to media channels that the launch will be attended by the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The platform will include archived content, live TV, sports, and exclusive content created or licensed by Prasar Bharati. It has also partnered with well-known producers like Eros Now and Lionsgate to offer their shows as paid options within the platform.

While the name and logo of the platform remain a secret, they will be revealed during the launch. Reports say that Prasar Bharati has secured several domain names, one of which will become the platform’s identity. Adding a creative touch, the service will also include a unique sound logo, similar to Netflix’s well-known “tudum” sound. The streaming service will be available on Android (via the Play Store), iOS (via the App Store), and as a website.

The platform has been developed by RailTel, a government-owned company. Its cloud and content delivery system is supported by Amazon Web Services. Users will be able to watch content in standard, high-definition, and 4K formats. Initially, the service will be free and supported by ads (AVOD model). Later, premium subscription plans will be introduced.

The system is built to manage 10 million users at the same time and can be expanded to support up to 100 million users if needed.

Prasar Bharati’s new platform is meant to bring its legacy into the digital world, making its content more accessible to people while adapting to modern viewing habits.
