OpenAI Welcomes Kate Rouch as its First-Ever CMO

OpenAI has appointed its first Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Kate Rouch, formerly the marketing maestro at Coinbase. Known for her flair in steering global marketing and PR at Coinbase, Rouch’s new role comes as OpenAI sharpens its focus on growth and branding.

Reflecting on her time at Coinbase, Rouch described it as both “the hardest and greatest thing” she has ever done. “Over the past three years, we have been tested. Financially, legally, reputationally, and politically,” she said, adding that the Coinbase marketing and comms team still proved they are the best in the game. Her note was filled with gratitude for her colleagues, praising their ability to turn even sceptics into brand advocates.

Before Coinbase, Rouch worked for firms like The Bridgespan Group and Meta. As the Vice President and Global Head of Brand and Product Marketing for Meta, she spent over a decade leading product marketing strategies for heavyweights like Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook.

OpenAI, known for its chatbot ChatGPT, has hinted at exploring advertising as a potential revenue source as it aims to transition into a for-profit entity. As a result, OpenAI is roping in advertising experts from the likes of Meta and Google.
