Farewells are rarely easy, and Vistara Airlines has left India with a bittersweet memory. The final chapter closed on 11 November 2024, as the airline—operating since 2015 and founded two years prior—made its last flight, marking the end of an era.
In a heartfelt message, Vistara expressed, “As the plane ascends, so do our dreams; let’s glide towards the future, where the sky isn’t the limit but just the beginning” Not just the end of an airline, this note symbolises the start of a new journey within the fold of Air India, a shift that brings mixed emotions for Vistara’s dedicated passengers. Passengers on Vistara’s final flights experienced a touching send-off, as the crew played the Bollywood classic Kal Ho Naa Ho after landing.
With this merger, Air India is now among the world’s largest airline groups, with a strong advantage in both domestic and international markets. On one hand, the merger brings growth potential, on the other hand, it is also tinged with nostalgia for loyal Vistara flyers who cherished its unique blend of comfort and luxury. The early flights under the Air India name will still have familiar touches—the same attentive crew, high service standards, and recognisable interiors that once marked Vistara’s style.

Air India, now with a combined fleet of 218 aircraft, stands as India’s largest international airline and the second-largest domestic carrier. This merger aligns with Tata Group’s vision to consolidate its airline assets, with Singapore Airlines retaining a 25.1% stake following significant investment. Tata’s move signifies a new era in Indian aviation, built on a foundation of resilience and ambition.
