SriLankan Airlines’ new advertisement is catching the attention of viewers and for a good reason! The epic of Ramayana is well-known, and Sri Lanka’s national carrier is strumming the nostalgic strings of all Indians in the video with picturesque shots of the country’s most storied sites tied to the legendary Hindu epic.

As kids, we have always relied on our grandparents to recite stories, and Sri Lankan Airlines has used this age-old tradition, adding the nostalgic animation of storybooks. The video starts with a grandmother sharing the tale of Ramayana with her wide-eyed grandson.

When the child eagerly asks where the demon king Ravana took Sita, she answers with a knowing smile, guiding him—and us—through the ancient landmarks that still hold echoes of the epic. “Today,” she says, “we know Lanka as Sri Lanka.”

What follows is a visual feast, with scenes that transport viewers to Ravana’s Cave near Ella, known to be Sita’s refuge, and onward to the revered Seetha Amman Temple, a beloved pilgrimage spot tended by Indian Tamils. The journey doesn’t stop there; it glides over the fabled Ram Setu, believed to be the bridge built by Rama’s army to reach Lanka. The child asks if the bridge still exists, and the grandmother nods, “Yes. You can still see it today,” hinting at the link between Rameswaram and Sri Lanka’s coast.

And just like that, the tale brings to life Lord Hanuman’s famous leap, the mountain in tow with the healing Sanjeevani herb to save Lakshman. This campaign has struck a chord with audiences, flooding the comments with praise for its artful retelling, blending Sri Lanka’s landscapes with the enduring magic of the Ramayana.

The campaign’s theme, “Relive the epic of The Ramayana Trail,” is set to whisk travellers across the island’s age-old landscapes, backed by Sri Lankan Holidays’ knack for crafting every detail to fit the tale.

The video has gone viral, garnering reactions from many Indians and travel bugs around the world. A user commented on X, “ I was planning a trip to Tokyo with friends next year. But this advertisement made me change my plans to Sri Lanka now. Didn’t know that Sri Lankans have conserved those historical places till date.”
